The New Theatre’s production of “The Women” opens tonight with a 12 member all female cast. Our 11-year-old Jade Potts has been rehearsing and having the time of her life preparing for her role of LITTLE MARY, who is precocious and yet able to comprehend more than the adults give her credit for. This challenging character is deeply concerned by her mother’s intention to divorce her dad and desperately wants her family to stay together. Jade is currently studying acting at our STC Baulkham Hills Drama School.
Written in 1936 by Clare Boothe Luce, this comedy about marital infidelity and revenge is still funny and relevant today. The ruthless world of Manhattan socialites and social climbers, their pampered lives, power struggles, friendships and rivalries, and the gossip that both feeds and damages their relationships are exposed with sharp wit and remorseless honesty. Though now regarded as a camp classic, beneath the wise-cracking, the backstabbing and the melodrama is an insightful and sympathetic study of human nature at its best and worst.
This comedy runs from tonight to 12 September. For more info and the purchasing of tickets, you can go to the New Theatre website: http://newtheatre.org.au/the-women/
